There is no such program that would work completely without errors. Even if its functionality is as simple as possible, there will still be some reason why something may not work. So, one of the most common errors in TeamViewer is “Partner did not connect to router.” This means that communication cannot be established due to the data link.
How the error looks
When the user launches the program and enters the correct information for the computer they want to connect to (partner ID and password), the information is sent to the server and matched with the information assigned to the remote PC. This process usually takes a few seconds. If the check succeeds, then your computer can connect to the partner, and if not, then a “Partner did not connect to router” message appears; error code: waitforconnectfailed. It means that the connection does not reach the partner and the signal is interrupted. As a result, it becomes impossible to connect to another computer.
What causes the issue
There are some of the most common reasons why TeamViewer does not connect to another computer:
- The most obvious reason is the incorrect operation of the application (a bug/glitch etc).
- The most common problem = no internet connection.
- It may also be impossible to connect to a computer due to network equipment. Because of a faulty router, network card, or other details, the remote computer control session cannot take place.
- An incorrect operation of the operating system, especially after updating it. It happens mostly on devices running Windows.
How to resolve the error
If there is an error, there should be a way to fix it. Actually, there are several ways. Try them one by one until the problem is solved.
Restarting the program or computer
The first thing that comes to mind for many users is restarting the program or computer. This method only helps if the application does not work due to operating system bugs. To restart TeamViewer, simply select “Connection” from the menu and click on “Exit TeamViewer”. Preferrably, the restart should be performed on both devices between which there must be a connection.
Update
Often, the application cannot establish a connection due to the fact that an old version of the program is installed on some PC. Checking for updates is simple:
- Launch TeamViewer and click “Help” up top.
- Next, click “Check for new version”.
If any updates are found, the program will ask your permission to download and install it. This procedure is also best done on two computers. You can also always download the latest version of TeamViewer from our website.
Reinstalling the program
Sometimes the computer cannot be accessed due to an incorrectly installed application. In this case, you need to uninstall TeamViewer, download it again from the official website and install it following all the instructions on the screen. To completely remove the program from your computer, go to “Start” – “Settings” – “Apps”, select TeamViewer there and click “Uninstall”.
Rebooting the router
If the problem is definitely not in the computers, then it is worth checking the network devices. Often there are difficulties due to the fact that the partner is not connected directly. In this case, you should do a few simple steps:
- Turn off the router and let it rest for a couple of minutes.
- Pull out the Internet cable from it for a while.
- Plug the cable in again and turn the router on.
Enable UPnP
If the above steps did not lead to success, you should make sure that the UPnP option is enabled in the router settings, which allows the router to automatically assign ports for each device connected to it. To do this, you need to go through any browser to the menu of the router. To do this, the following characters are entered in the address bar: 192.168.0.0 or 192.168.0.1. Then the algorithm is slightly different depending on the router model.
To enable UPnP for D-Link, do the following:
- Find the “More” menu.
- Select “Advanced network settings”.
- Click on “Enable UPnP”.
Algorithm for TAP-Link:
- Find the menu “Forwarding”.
- Find “UPnP”.
- Select “Enabled”.
For ASUS, the algorithm is also slightly different:
- First, look for the “Internet” menu.
- Find the item “Connection”.
- Select “Enable UPnP”.
- Confirm the choice.
Reset router settings
Sometimes the router stops working correctly due to incorrect settings. In this case, you need to reset them to factory defaults. This is done either through the control panel of the router, which can be accessed using the instructions above, or using a special button on the router itself.
Direct connection
It often happens that TeamViewer does not work simply because the partner is connected to the router. In this case, just move the Internet cable from the router to the computer directly.
